Vladimir Anoshenko was born in 1970 in the city of Gomel, country of Belarus (Former Soviet Union). He was 11 years old when he became involved in a freestyle wrestling program at a local club “Dinamo”. Vlady learned wrestling quickly and in just 2 years he achieved success in state and national youth tournaments. At 14 he was invited to attend the state sport boarding school in which he graduated at the top 3 of the class. By placing 4th at the cadet and junior Soviet national championships, he became a member of the Soviet cadet and junior national teams. He was also a winner of multi cadet and junior championships of Belarus. At age 16, Vlady became a Belarus senior national champion, at the weight category 48 kilo.
In 1988 Vlady attended Gomelsky State University. He graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor degree in Physical Education and Teaching. At the same time from 1988 – 1990, he served in the Russian military. After the USSR broke up, Vlady again became a Belarussian national champion at weight 68 kilo. He represented Belarus at many international meets and the 1994 European National Championship where he finished with a 1-1 record.
Vlady came to the United States with the Belarussian national team in 1994. He decided to stay in the U.S. with his teammate and friend Vladimir Matyushenko and enroll in Lassen Community College to learn the English language, American History and culture. He also learned the American college wrestling style. In 1995, Vlady won NJCAA nationals at 150 lbs. In 1996 he became a graduate assistant coach at Eastern Illinois University. After receiving a Masters degree in Sport Management, Vlady continued his coaching career at EIU as assistant coach. In 2000 he married and moved to the southwest side of Chicago. Since then he has been running a variety of wrestling camps and clinics around the country and helping with high school and youth programs around the area where he lives with his wife Beth and 2 children – daughter, Sasha and son, Luka.
